About

Nayo combines the best of folk and ethnic music from South America with a contemporary world beat sensibility. Although his specialty is music from Peru and South America, Nayo’s varied repertoire of both traditional and original songs encompasses all of Latin America. He also enjoys performing classical music using the traditional instruments of the Andes. From concerts throughout the United States and Europe sponsored by the Peruvian Consulate, to guest artist billing with the Oakland and Sacramento Symphonies, to schools and community centers, Nayo has delighted audiences with his uniquely accessible fusion of traditional and modern sounds.

While the Kena, or Andean flute, is Nayo’s primary instrument, he also delights audiences with the Sikus (Andean panpipes), guitar, charango and voice. Nayo’s opera-trained tenor range embraces everything from traditional Peruvian and Andean music to Latin American romantic standards and Italian art songs.

Nayo has been an educator for many years. An active member of the National Association for Music Education, long-time ambassador and educator for the Quena (or Kena) flute, and currently a Professor of Spanish and Latino Studies at Goshen College in Indiana, Nayo is available for lessons at all levels. He recommends beginners booking short lessons, and more advanced students booking longer sessions.
