Freestyle Flatfoot Clogging: Next Steps with Aubrey Atwater
Join renowned dancer, Aubrey Atwater, for a Freestyle Flatfoot Clogging class. Flatfooting is a traditional form of American step-dance with African, European, and Native roots. This class is open to all! Aubrey has joyfully and successfully taught many dancers online.
This class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Class capacity is 15 students. Registration closes on March 6, 2024. Students are invited to attend a large group Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various classes online.
Class Materials
Students need: tap shoes or shoes with hard soles that slide well, comfortable and supportive clothing suitable for exercise, a hard surface--floor or board--to dance on.

The class will meet for four weekly 60-min live online sessions on Mondays at 6 pm ET | 3 pm PT | 22:00 UTC on the schedule below. The first session is on March 6.
Enrolled students receive 30-day access to the video recordings of the classes.
How It Works
Enroll above to save your spot in the class. Lessonface will send you a confirmation right away, and a Zoom link 24 hours before the class start time. You can log into your Lessonface dashboard to access class materials, communicate with your instructor, join the live Zoom session, and access the class recordings and chat transcript afterward.
Refund Policy: To cancel an enrollment or request a refund, contact support@lessonface.com. For 30+ days before, we refund 95%. Between 30 and 5 days, receive a 75% refund. No refunds within 5 days of class start date. Materials kit fees are non-refundable.

The first class was great... Such an awesome and fun instructor! My only problem was COVID recovery. I was too tired and out of shape to make it happen. Only myself to blame. When I signed up I didn't have COVID... it overwhelmed me two weeks before class. I will hope to watch the videos and possibly take the class.

Fun! Good pace for review for me, and newbies gained a lot, too. Aubrey is very clear and encouraging in her dancing. She does enough repetition for me to catch on in my body, and moves on to something new to make it fresh, too. She encourages questions and is making zoom almost as good as in-person class. She's having fun, and it's contagious!

The instruction was great! The steps were presented clearly and there was a lot of repetition which is a plus when learning the steps and a routine. Having the video recordings to reference is so helpful. I am a dance novice, and some of this was challenging but I was smiling at the end of each class. Aubrey was not only a good dance instructor, but she was engaging, patient, answered any questions, and provided good historical context about flatfoot clogging. I would take this class again in order to improve my skills.

I wish It would have been possible for Aubrey to watch us individually to give pointers and corrections in regards to our own steps but I realize that would be impossible with 19 people on zoom. It was fantastic! Aubrey is a great teacher. She gave us history of the craft we were learning. She told us about her teachers. She demonstrated. We practiced. She demonstrated. We practiced. She invited questions. Aubrey made the class accessible for absolute beginners (me) and also taught more advanced steps for more advanced dancers--and never made me feel, as a beginner, that I wasn't doing enough or learning fast enough. She told us it took her years of practice to learn the steps. She told us how to practice (do it over and over again; break it down; start slow). She also clearly loves music and dancing and that enthusiasm also made the class a great experience. I wasn't sure how an online dance class would be but I knew I wasn't going to show up in person to a dance class right not because of covid. It turned out far better than I even imagined. I've signed up for the March 2022 class Aubrey is teaching and have convinced a friend to join the class and have invited a second friend who might also join the class. I loved the class and love Aubrey as a teacher.

It exceeded my expectations! By having classes once a week, I could practice in between, and progress at my own pace. I could also go at my own pace, as it would be difficult to do 8 hours of dancing in one day!
