About Fingerstyle Loog Guitar

Does your child love to play songs of all sorts on their Loog guitar? Are they ready to do more than just simple strumming and picking with the right hand? Fingerstyle Loog Guitar will teach young Loog guitarists how to play songs using their right hand fingers, which allows multiple parts to be played at the same time. For example, you can play a melody with your thumb and accompaniment with your index finger. Basically, the guitar gets to be a whole orchestra!
We’ll learn pieces that sound full and complete on a single guitar, but can be broken down into a few basic principles. Fingerstyle Loog Guitar is great preparation for further musical adventures in genres such as classical, fingerstyle, flamenco, and songwriting.
The class is designed for children ages 7 and up who can already play simple melodies and chord progressions on the guitar. Younger kids with the technical abilities described are welcome at their parents’ discretion.
What's Needed
Materials
Loog guitar (in tune!)
Strap (if you don’t have an actual guitar strap, a comfortable string attached to the strap pegs will work)
Playing Experience
Some experience required! Students must be able to press down on the frets with the left hand fingers and get a clean sound. If you can play a few chord progressions and melodies with a nice sound, you’ll be in good shape.
Class Structure
Each class will last thirty minutes.
Students are encouraged to send the instructor videos of class songs between sessions to get feedback on their playing.

Maximum of 25 enrollments
Parental Involvement
Parents, please plan to be present during the entire first class. For subsequent classes, mature students may be able to handle attending the class independently. Other children may need parental assistance throughout the entire course.
Class Goals
- - Learn to read TAB for a 3-string Loog guitar
- - Learn to play melodies with the thumb
- - Accompany thumb melodies with the index finger
- - Accompany thumb melodies with simple arpeggios with the index and middle fingers
- - Learn to play simple arpeggios
- - Play melodies using alternating index and middle fingers
- - Play melodies accompanied by simple arpeggios
- - Develop correct practice habits that are critical for musical growth and improvement
- - Learn fundamentals of right hand technique that will apply to many styles of guitar playing
- - Enjoy learning music with enthusiastic Loog students all over the world!

The class will meet for ten weekly 30-min live online sessions on Sundays at 1:30 pm ET | 10:30 am PT | 18:30 UTC on the schedule below. The first session is on January 21.
All classes are recorded for later review and study. If you have to miss a class or two, you can always catch up using the video.

As always, it was a real privilege to be in this group! Leah's teaching style is perfect--so much is covered in each lesson, but never at a pace that's too overwhelming. She has a wonderful sense of where we are, which must be very difficult, as everyone's at a different playing level. We are encouraged to ask questions and to share answers as well as play something if we so choose. Besides all these points, I'd just like to mention how incredibly helpful it is to review the recordings from each week's lesson. I'm really looking forward to the next class, beginning May 1--meanwhile, I've got plenty of material to practice!

This was a fantastic lesson today! Leah's pace was just right for my playing ability--she want slowly enough so that I could keep up and yet not too slowly, thus keeping things challenging. I like the way she always demonstrates how to play things in a basic way and then shows us a "fancier" more musically interesting way to play it. Very much looking forward to next class!

Leah is very attentive. She gives you multiple chances to understand what she`s talking about. She gives examples at the beginning of the class, explains how to do what she is teaching, takes questions, excepts different interpretations and points of view, and gives students a chance to play. She also gives examples at the end, first playing slowly, and then faster, so that we really get to hear the piece and appreciate its potential. Thanks Leah!
