About Songwriting For All
Whether you've been playing piano for 9 years, sing in a band, or your audience is your collection of shampoos - words & lyrics are available to everyone, and therefore, songwriting can be available to everyone!
Alongside lyric writing, the musical aspects of songwriting will be introduced in a highly intuitive and accessible way.
All levels of musical ability and knowledge are welcome!
In this interactive songwriting workshop, we will:
- cover the basic elements of songwriting, including song sections, common forms, rhymes, rhythm, melody, repetition and basic chord progressions
- analyze popular songs
- learn different approaches and techniques to songwriting
- write songs collectively as a group, taking an active participation in the creation of a song and learning from each other’s inputs and contributions
By the end of the series, you will -
- have a deeper understanding and awareness of the building blocks of songwriting
- have co-created at least one song
- have different tools so that you can write your own songs
How It Works
Students can connect to the online platform using a tablet or computer with reliable internet. To actively participate online students also need a webcam with microphone. The live sessions are recorded so that all enrolled students can review the class sessions following the live class. Class recordings will be available for viewing within 48 hours of the live class. The class is covered by the Lessonface Guarantee.

Shai Portugaly
Shai Portugaly is a Songwriter, Pianist, Singer & Educator from Israel based in NY, graduate of Berklee College of Music. A highly versatile musician, she has toured around the world collaborating with various artists (among others, Grammy Award Winner, Indian composer A. R. Rahman). Shai has a great passion for teaching music, and has over 12 years of experience teaching various aspects and genres of music. She finds Songwriting to be the most profound yet accessible form of art - it is journaling, in the most creative and beautiful way. Through songwriting, Shai finds inner knowing, confidence and self value, and is becoming a more courageous, open and vulnerable person.
