About
Thanks to a Fulbright scholarship Carolina completed a Master’s degree in Cello Performance Pedagogy at Ohio University. She has also been a Martin Luther King and the United States State Department Fellow, among other distinctions.
As a new directions cellist and Afro Colombian cantaora(traditional singer) , Carolina Borja has gathered her eclectic experience from collaborating with folk fusion and world music bands, interdisciplinary groups of artists, dance companies, chamber music ensembles and orchestras. She is currently a member of the bands Cellocentric(classically infused folk and jazz)and Kombilesa Asé(music inspired in the African diaspora in the Americas).
Gracias a una beca Fulbright, Carolina es Magister en Pedagogía de la Interpretación del Violonchelo de la Universidad de Ohio. También ha sido becaria Martin Luther King Jr. y del Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos entre otras distinciones.
Carolina ha reunido su experiencia como cantaora y chelista Afrocolombiana de sus colaboraciones con bandas de folclor y músicas del mundo, grupos interdisciplinarios de artistas, compañías de danza, ensambles de música de cámara y orquestas. Actualmente es miembro de las bandas Cellocentric(foclor y jazz con influencia clásica) y Kombilesa Asé(música inspirada en la diáspora Africana en las Américas).
I'm a a bilingual educator that loves sharing her abilities, knowledge and spirit with parents/guardians and students from diverse backgrounds in kindergartens, schools, universities and academies, as well as my private studio. I firmly believe that everyone can learn to play an instrument and/or speak a language as long as their talent is nurtured with love and trust. I like to listen to students needs. I see students as a whole. They might be wanting to learn a skill, but that skill is the symbol of something much more deeper. I'm honored to help students along their path of self discovery. And I'm very excited to learn and improve as a teacher.

Soy una eduadora bilingue que ama compartir sus habilidades, conocimientos y espíritu con padres/acudientes y estudiantes de diversos bagajes en jardínes infantiles, escuelas, universidades y academias, al igual que en mi práctica privada. Creo firmemente que todos pueden aprender a tocar un instrumento y/o hablar una lengua siempre y cuando su talento se nutra de un proceso lleno de amor y confianza.Personalmente, veo a los estudiantes de manera holística. Aunque quieran aprender una habilidad, esa misma es el símbolo de algo mucho más profundo. Me siento constantemente honrada de poder ayudar a los estudiantes es ese camino de autodescubrimiento y me emociona aprender y mejorar como profesora.

My lessons are a fun combination of techniques, improvisation, composition and exploration for students to offer freedom and boost connection with creativity and artistry. I recommend the Suzuki method between 4 and 13 years old along with the student's interests. But I' m totally flexible if the parent/student would like a different approach.
For Spanish lessons I focus on learning the language the most natural way: listening and speaking first. Then, reading and writing. Conversation is at the core of the lesson.
Mis clases son una mezcla divertida de técnicas, improvisación, composición y exploración que ofrecen libertad a los estudiantes y empoderan su conexión con la creatividad y el arte.
Recomiendo el método Suzuki entre los 4 y 13 años en conjunción con los que el estudiante quiera aprender. Sin embargo, soy completamente flexible en cuando al metodo de aprendizaje si el estudiante o acudiente lo requiere.
