A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Kerry has background in classical and jazz genres, and she also maintains a focus on Brazilian jazz/bossa nova. Kerry studied jazz improvisation and composition with jazz guru Charlie Banacos. An active performer and composer, the pianist has six albums as a leader. She encourages students to "jump in" to improvising with techniques they can apply immediately.
Currently, Kerry serves as adjunct music faculty at Portland State University and the University of Portland. She has given clinics at the University of Kansas and throughout the Multnomah County Library system.
Kerry believes in applying techniques to musical material from the beginning, rather than simply repeating exercises. Kerry enjoys working with students from all levels, from beginning to advanced.
