I have several years of teaching and performing experience and earned an M.M. in Classical Guitar Performance from SUNY Fredonia, where I also hold a Bachelor's of Music in Composition, with a focus on performance. I recently completed a PhD in Music Theory at the University of Oregon, and have moved to Chicago's Uptown neighborhood.

My years as a teacher of not only guitar, but also music theory at the undergraduate level have allowed me to approach any musical material from many different angles, allowing me to find the perfect approach for you in order to maximize your lesson time. My lessons will focus on fundamentals such as scales and etudes, as well as repertoire. Lessons will be focused upon student interest, in order to find rep that the student finds interesting and enjoyable. I also focus on building sight-reading, and analytic skills that will help you to get the most out of your learning.

Because of my experience teaching guitar privately, as well as at a University as a graduate assistant, I have worked with every level of guitar student and have developed several approaches to teaching everything from fundamentals, all the way up to the fine tuning of technique.

I also have several years experience teaching both written music theory and ear training. As a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oregon I taught undergraduate Freshman and Sophomores essential analysis and sight singing skills in order to help them become more well-rounded and knowledgeable musicians.

As a composer I have written works for chamber ensembles, solo instruments, voice and piano, and chorus. I can help you to develop your skills as a composer by teaching you about form, harmony, voice-leading, and other compositional considerations to help your music be the best it can be.

If you are a beginner of any age, or are preparing for college auditions, I encourage you to contact me with any questions that you may have and to find a lesson time that works for you. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you.

My style of teaching involves a great attention to detail and a focus on the fundamentals of playing. My approach links theoretical concepts with ways to effectively perform any piece of music. I think that the key to learning the guitar is having a great base with which to build upon. Repertoire can be as varied as the student would like, focusing on songs and pieces that keep them excited about playing and practicing. I also work from a large body of etudes, and exercises to solidify concepts that one needs to successfully perform any piece of music, and to master any technique necessary.
