Andy Cantu has been playing drums/percussion for more than 14 years and has taught for more than 10 years. He has performed different styles of music such as rock, funk, jazz, free jazz/avant garde/third stream, blues, pop, R&B, contemporary chamber music, and Latin music. Over the past years Andy has collaborated in different projects that have taken him to studio sessions and tours as well. Andy finished his studies at Berklee College of Music where he majored in Performance and minored in Performance Studies in Latin Music. Currently Andy lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he is starting his career as a drummer.

When I was starting to play drums, I had a teacher who was a great drummer but lacked teaching skills. I will assure you this is not the case. I've done my homework, and I guarantee you that you will receive the material in a clean and organized way. I will work with you step by step on every little aspect in the learning process.

Hey! Playing drums is not that hard. You just need patience and a good instructor.

The things I can show you are: technique, coordination/independence, different styles and rhythms, sight reading, drum notation, fills/solos/improvisation, how to build musicianship, music theory, playing percussion instruments, helping you break down the song you love, and, above all, having fun!

I am more than happy to teach and share with you my knowledge in performance, touring, and studio sessions. This will cover the topics of playing with a click track or metronome, preparing for a gig or audition, and touring information.
