Hello! I am a certified Alexander Technique teacher, a licensed Bodymapping specialist, a voice trainer, and a classical and jazz singer. I live, teach and perform in the Pacific Northwest area of the United States. I have a Master of Fine Arts degree in Voice Performance, trained with Barbara Conable in Bodymapping, and then trained to become an Alexander Technique teacher. During this time, I sang mainstage opera for about 15 years, then moved into jazz. I released two CD's, ElegantM jazz, 2015, and Marieke & the Eugene Jazz Collective, 2018. I have been voice coaching singers, actors and public speakers for the past 20+ years, and movement coaching instrumentalists for the past 10 years. I have a private studio, Cantare Studio: Voice and the Alexander Technique, and I give workshops at colleges and universities in my area. The youtube video above is from a workshop at Oregon State University, in 2017. I have students who have gone on to be Broadway performers, rock performers, classical performers, actors, and singer/songwriters.
As an Alexander Technique Movement coach, I am the person you see when you 1) need help with breathing, 2) you have excess tension in your instrument playing or voice, 3) you have trouble performing a movement, 4) you have pain or discomfort when practicing or performing, 5) you feel "stuck" in your learning progress, or 6) you are doing well, but want to take your abilities to a new performance level. An Alexander Technique teacher is a trained movement observer. I watch you play, speak, sing or move, give you feedback on what you are doing that might be limiting you, and help you find alternatives. The goal is for you to have more ease and freedom. Being relaxed also helps in ease of movement, so our sessions are lighthearted and fun. Alexander Technique based Movement Coaching can supplement your work with other teachers, or be a personal exploration all on it's own.
