About

Oscar Neyland started playing bass guitar as a teenager, quickly excelling at the instrument. Switching major to Double Bass halfway through his Bachelor of Music degree, Oscar is a highly trained musician specializing in jazz music.

Whether playing electric bass in rock, pop, funk or blues bands, or playing double bass in a string quartet, jazz trio or anything in between, Oscar brings a high level of enthusiasm and excitement to both the stage and his teaching.

A professional musician and teacher throughout the course of his studies, music has taken him to all corners of Australia and the full range of its stages including the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, the Palais Theater in Melbourne, and right down to bush dances in regional town halls.

Adept in music technology for learning, Oscar's teaching through one-on-one interaction coupled with his own iPad (student not required to own an iPad) has been featured on websites including cultofmac.com.

Lessons focus on the application of fundamental techniques and using the student's own musical inspirations and passions as the starting point. A strong believer in the connection between musical theory and freedom of expression on the instrument, Oscar aims to inspire and develop a student's overall musicianship.
