Patrick Neher, double bass player and professor, is recognized as one of the world's leading virtuoso soloists and composers of music for bass. He received his Master of Music Degree with Honors from the Juilliard School of Music in 1981, under the esteemed tutelage of the late David Walter. In 1996 he received the coveted Diplôme from François Rabbath and the International Rabbath Institute, Paris, France. Visit his website for more information.

He was Professor of Bass and Multimedia Collaborations at the University of Arizona from 1984 to 2012. He founded the Arizona Double Bass Symposium in1988 and the Arizona Bass Players Festival in 2005. He is a former member of the San Diego Symphony, the New Mexico Symphony, the American Philharmonic, the New Orleans Symphony, and the New 20th Century Players, and for ten years, he was Principal Bassist with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. For almost two decades, Patrick was Principal Bassist with the Santa Fe Orchestra and the Santa Fe Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra. He is the founder and artistic director of Crossing Barriers Group.

Patrick gives clinics on bass performance and composition around the world, has been one of the Directors of the International Society of Bassists, and has been listed in the International Who's Who in Music since 1989. He has served twice as Head of the Solo Competition Jury for the International Society of Bassists, and for three years he was the Double Bass Forum Editor for American String Teacher magazine. As an active member of ASCAP he is an avid composer, arranger, and editor with music and recordings published by Liben Music and ISG Publications. Patrick's articles on double bass and its players as well as reviews of his compositions have been published by Double Bassist Magazine, American String Teacher, Strings Magazine, and Bass World, the journal of the International Society of Bassists. He is presently serving as a forum expert for "Ask a Pro" on TalkBass.com and is on the Board of Directors of Taos Chamber Music Group. He recently moved to Bellingham, WA where he operates an arts consulting business.

A truly unique approach to life and bass playing, Patrick's experiences in music and the arts has created an evolving method, or set of methods, that integrates all types of music and techniques. He has explicit exercises that cross genres and help a bassist play any kind of music on any bass. In addition to the techniques that he developed, he also utilizes tried and true methods of Simandl, Rabbath, Bille, Bottesini, and any other bassist that you can think of! A truly eclectic approach to the bass, Patrick's way of teaching is holistic; you will find life-lessons are a part of bass lessons! Find out more on his website and on his YouTube channel. For Asian users, some vids are on YouKu.

Because Internet connections are so variable, individual lessons are supplemented with email and Dropbox support, where good quality audio and video can be shared, then followed-up at Lessonface. For European and Asian students, I am available at early hours of the morning. PLEASE, email for availability!

Though one-on-one teaching is his forte, Patrick has also given group lessons in numerous settings around the world. These master classes will be offered to students of Lessonface with special consideration. Camps, workshops, and master classes will be arranged throughout the season.

Flexible. Lessons from Europe and Asia encouraged. Message me first.
