While at Juilliard, she was a full-scholarship student of Bonnie Hampton. Valeriya was a laureate in a number of international competitions, including the Liezen International Cello Competition in Austria and the Antonio Janigro Cello Competition for Juniors in Croatia. I am a patient and open-minded teacher who enjoys guiding each student's growth at their personal pace and respecting their approach to music and learning. I aim at an open communication between me and the student, as the student's feedback is one of the most improtant guides for me as a teacher.

I have been teaching private students for 7 years, and it has proven to be one of the most satisfying parts of being a professional musician. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me!

Reviews of lessons with Valeriya Sholokhova

She is wonderful & patient with my daughter. I love how she practices even the most basic principles to really bring out the sound in my daughter's cello & to teach her proper technique & how to be the best she can be. She was very encouraging & my daughter loved her. We can't wait to continue on this musical journey with her.

Valeriya has been so helpful. I am a beginner adult student and have been studying with her for almost a year. She is very astute with suggestions for foundation type skills. For example, a bow hold that is relaxed and supple instead of tense and strained. She is patient, kind, smart and funny! I feel very fortunate to have her as my cello teacher.
