Conga in Green Grass for Conga for Beginners Course

In this group lesson series Larry will demonstrate the fundamentals of conga technique. The classes will cover the standard hand positions heel, toe, open and slap techniques. Students will need either a conga or a quinto.

Classes will be Saturdays, 5-5:45 pm ET May 7, 14, 21, and 28th.

Week #1 Introduction, correct seating and conga positioning, heel, toe, and open tone techniques
Week #2 Short review and closed slap technique
Week #3 Short review and open slap technique
Week #4 Short review and implementation of all techniques into a standard tumbao pattern

Class materials include PDFs of notation/rhythms, practice methods and suggestions.

Conga for Beginners - forty-five minute interactive group classes, Saturday, May 7, 14, 21, 28th, at 5 pm ET | 2 pm PT. Sign up before April 30 for early bird rate. In May the class fee will increase by $10. $49 for four sessions.
HOW IT WORKS

These are live classes that are taught from Larry's home studio. Students attend over the Lessonface high performing video conference platform. Students can connect to the online platform using a tablet or computer with reliable internet. The live sessions are recorded so that all enrolled students and auditors can review the class sessions following the live class. Class recordings will be available for viewing within 48 hours of the live class. Larry Salzman Larry plays over 20 hand percussion/drum instruments, including conga, bongos, djembe, cajon, talking drum, doumbek, frame drums (riq pandeiro tar) maracas, castanets, tambourine, timbales, orchestral/symphonic snare drum. As a teacher, Larry has hosted/directed clinics on cajon, frame drums, drum set and general hand percussion for 10 years.

As a student Larry has studied under the best players/teachers there are. Some of those include Luis Conte, Alex Acuna, Roy Burns, Dan Greco, Tommy Brechtlein, Ali Salaaf, as well as tabla masters Abhijit Banjeree and Jyoti Prakash. Additionally Larry has dedicated years of research to several ethnic styles of music and percussion. Some of those include the South Indian Carnatic system, Ghanian Drum Gahu, Cuban quinto phrasing and concepts as well as odd meter and polymetric/polyrhythmic methods.
