Lessonface 2023 Year in Review

Guided by our mission of helping students achieve their goals, while treating teachers equitably, Lessonface has continued to build as a meetingplace for music, language, and arts lessons in 2023, our eleventh year in operations. Last week, the 100,000th user registered! For an inside look, check out our newest how-it-works video.

We are so grateful to teachers who bring their expertise and energy, the students their curiosity and drive, and all the other feedback, support, and community of our partners and friends.

A few notable metrics from 2023:

  • Verified Lessonface students rated their private lessons an average of 4.996/5 stars, in over 5,400 reviews, and their group classes 4.8/5 in over 700 reviews, bringing our total number of 5-star reviews to over 25,000.
  • Teachers taught private lessons in 220 topics, the biggest variety of subjects taught in any year so far.
  • More students performed than in any previous year in our history. Lessonface staff and teachers hosted  48 performance opportunities, including recitals, open mics, and jams, double the performance opportunities of last year. View upcoming performance opportunities for the Lessonface community.
New features and programs in 2023:

  • Many teachers are so busy that we've added waitlists as a feature (among many other site improvements over the past year).
  • Zoom's 2023 updates are so nuanced and advanced that musicians can play in time with each other, remotely. We celebrated with a new type of performance opportunity, the Jam!
  • Ending the year with a bang, just this month we've introduced the ability for teachers to create self-paced courses! Expect to see more of those in 2024.

We have continued working with our phenomenal programming partners on creating and offering classes, including the MET Orchestra, John C Campbell Folk School, Loog Guitars, and many others.

We look forward to the part we play in all the connections to come in the next year. Stay tuned for more innovations and opportunities for and from the ever growing Lessonface universe. We hope you will join in with us, and meanwhile, wishing everyone a wonderful end to 2023!
