Nathan Chambers
About
Nathan Chambers is a trombonist from Indianapolis, Indiana. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. While at the Jacobs School, Chambers has performed as principal trombone of the Philharmonic, Symphony, Chamber, and Conductors' Orchestras as well as the Wind Ensemble. He has been a member of various chamber ensembles including the IU Trombone Choir, the Crimson Brass Quintet, and the IU Sackbut studio led by Dr. Liza Malamut. He has played with groups such as the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra and Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. His principal teachers include Peter Ellefson, Carl Lenthe, Blake Schlabach, and Brittany Lasch. Through high-school, he served as principal trombone of the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra, touring to Carnegie Hall in 2022.
Some of Nathan's accolades include being one of three finalists in the 2024 Big 12 Tenor Trombone Competition and winning numerous GCC and ENKOR Int’l Online Competitions. More recently, Nathan was named co-winner of the Jacobs School of Music Brass Concerto Competition and performed the Grøndahl Trombone Concerto with the IU Symphonic Band this spring.
Outside of Bloomington, he has been a participant in reputable programs such as the Michael Mulcahy Trombone Seminar at Northwestern University and the LA Studio Recording Intensive at Warner Brothers Studios in in Burbank, California, being featured on The Hollywood Collection album and the single “Ran Kan Kan” (with Tito Puente, Jr.).
In his free time, Nathan enjoys spending time with his loving family, friends, and fiancée, Savannah. Other hobbies of his include working out, playing basketball, and watching the Indiana Pacers. Some of his favorite TV shows include The Office, Breaking Bad, and Friends.
Teaching Style
I am easygoing and want to share my passion for trombone playing with my students! Learning to play the trombone should be fun and exciting.
Curriculum
My curriculum is age and level appropriate. Your current skill level and personal goals are what we will use to strategize where to go from there! Beginning students will be taught the basics of technique and etiquette of trombone playing, primarily from the Essential Elements Book. I will familiarize you with standard solo repertoire that is aligned with your age and skill level. Above all, we will ensure your musical experience is fun and rewarding!
