Aaron Lerer
About
Hey, I'm Aaron, a Brooklyn-based guitarist and composer with a Bachelor's from Berklee College of Music and additional training at IMEP Paris. I've spent years writing and performing music across indie, psych-pop, and alt-R&B, and I bring that real-world experience into every lesson. I've been teaching guitars for more than 4 years now, and whether you're just picking up the guitar for the first time or you want to dig into songwriting, music theory, mprovisation, or even learn your favorite songs, I tailor every lesson to where you are and where you want to go. I'm patient, I keep things fun, and I genuinely love watching students have those breakthrough moments. As a guitarist, I was selected by Gibson to be a member of the Gibson Generation Group (a very selective program spotlighting young guitarists).
Teaching Style
I believe the best way to learn guitar is by playing music you actually love. Every lesson starts with where you are and what excites you, whether that's nailing a specific song, understanding how chords work together, or improvising over a groove. I break things down into small, clear steps so nothing feels overwhelming, and I always make sure you walk away from each session with something you can practice and feel good about. I'm big on building a strong foundation in technique and theory, but I never make it dry. Everything connects back to real music. I'm patient, encouraging, and honest, and I adapt my approach to how each student learns best. I believe in this method because that's how I learnt.
Curriculum
I don't follow a fixed method or curriculum. I think rigid programs get in the way of real learning. Every student is different, so every lesson is built around you: your goals, your taste, your pace. Some students want to learn songs they love, others want to understand theory or get better at improvising, and most want a mix of everything. I pull from whatever serves the moment, whether it's a riff to work on technique, a song to introduce a new concept, a jam to put it all into practice. The through line isn't a method book, it's paying attention to what clicks for you and building on that.
