Adam Spiegl

Adam Spiegl is a freelance double and electric bassist from Melbourne, Australia.  One of Melbourne's most in-demand players, he has performed and recorded with some of Australia's finest musicians, specialising in jazz, rock, pop and contemporary music.  Adam was a finalist in the 2015 National Jazz Awards for bass, Australia's most prestigious award for young jazz musicians, and his debut album Melancholiac was nominated for Jazz Album of the Year at the 2019 Music Victoria Awards.

Adam holds a Bachelor of Music Performance (Honours) from Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts, where he majored in jazz and contemporary bass.  He has also completed a significant course of classical double bass study with Anita Hustas, and currently performs with the South Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Adam specialises in all contemporary double and electric bass styles, with a focus on technique, musicality, improvisation and music theory.  He teaches beginners, intermediate and advanced players, and lessons are tailored to each student's specific goals and interests.



For double bass students Adam teaches both pizzicato and arco playing, drawing from both classical and jazz methods, and is available to help jazz bassists improve their arco playing or begin exploring classical repertoire.  He teaches primarily French bow, plus some beginner German bow.

Adam speaks fluent English and Czech, and is available for lessons in either language.
