About

Adam Tully is guitarist and composer born in New York and based in Buenos Aires, where he has a celebrated career. His music has been called ‘unmistakably tango, but with a cool, percussive vibe.’

He debuted at Carnegie Hall in 2002 and has appeared as a soloist with the Port Angeles Symphony. After studying in Buenos Aires with tango guitarist Aníbal Arias, he took an active role in tango, playing in New York with Octavio Brunetti, Daniel Binelli, Raul Jaurena, Tito Castro, Pancho Navarro and Pablo Pereyra. Since 2014 he has been involved in tango education, serving on the faculty of Tango Para Músicos in Buenos Aires and Tango For Musicians at Reed College.

Adam has toured the U.S., Latin America and Europe performing at Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, Kaufman Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Centro Cultural San Martín, and has appeared on many recordings, jingles, and film scores. He holds a Master of Music from The New School/Mannes, and a Bachelor of Arts from New York University.

Tango, Classical & Latin American Guitar

-1-hour lessons (video chat)

-You and I exchange audio and video recordings between lessons

-I keep a document with notes from each lesson so that you can review (in a shared folder)

-I also put PDFs of sheet music, audio and video recordings in the shared folder

-I use other resources (my blog, technique videos, playlists)

Some of the available areas of study:

-Traditional tango guitar (repertoire, language, technique, arrangements)

-Fundamentals of tango language (genres, rhythmic and melodic treatment)

-Solo guitar (working on arrangements and applying tango fundamentals

-Piazzolla (applying tango concepts to Piazzolla’s music in order to understand and perform better)

Some of my students read music, and some do not. I can teach tango either way. Also, tango can be played with a pick or with the fingernails…there is more than one way to play. Therefore it’s not necessary that you already have a specific technique. The only requirements are that you already play the guitar and want to learn tango!
