About

Hi, I'm Aisha! I'm here to help you succeed through encouragement, creative problem solving, experimentation and play. The best lessons are ones we enjoy because we can remember them easily. It's a neurological thing! My lessons are structured around you, the student - your personal motivations, ambitions and struggles. And most importantly, I will teach you *how* to learn, not just what to learn.

I have a BA in Music History and Literature and a Masters in Interactive and Environmental Journalism. That all basically means that my motivations are curiosity and creativity. Beyond my education, I have 20+ years experience as a music performer and actor, and 15+ years experience writing and editing.

I have one year experience teaching English as a Second Language in France in small group, classroom settings to students between 13-15 years old. As a manager, I've trained adults one-on-one for the past 15 years in web design, content and copywriting, marketing, and other skills as needed on the job.

It's my goal to help every student not just memorize, but to understand and synthesize lessons so they can come up with creative solutions and ideas on their own. If you think we'd make a good team, please feel free to contact me to schedule a lesson.

Teaching Style

It's all about you and personalizing lessons to your motivations, ambitions, and struggles. I'm here to help you succeed through encouragement, creative problem solving, experimentation and play. Some techniques I use are spaced repetition, diffuse and focused learning, chunking.

Curriculum

Singing / Vocal
Classical and contemporary (jazz, pop, R&B) with a focus on vocal health, resonance, and the primitive voice. You won't be straining or altering your instrument to fit a certain mold.
 

Composition/Music Theory
You'll be learning through doing with increasingly difficult and/or complex compositions. This will enable you to read, hear and compose music holistically.
