About

Alan began playing guitar at the age of eight. He started by learning folk songs from his Father who is also a musician. He then went on to study blues and rock music with Tony Lee in Ballyfermot college.

After teaching guitar and performing in a band at events around Ireland and abroad, Alan went back to study for a degree in music. He graduated from the DIT Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in performance and pedagogy. There he studied under the tuition of Dr John Feely, Alan Grundy and Leslie Cassidy. There he participated in master classes with Paul Gergory, Raymond Burley and the Vanbrugh Quartet. During his time there he completed modules in the philosophy and psychology of Music Education, Teaching Methods and wrote his dissertation on instrument specific Performance Anxiety.

Alan has over 10 years teaching experience and has achieved a high standard of results with his students through certified exam syllabuses.

Technique. Scales, arpeggios and etudes. 

Sight reading. Best way to learn how to read notation is by teaching the student how to write out short passages using the scales they learn for technique. 

Pieces. Learning classical guitar pieces that suit the student.
