About

Hey everyone thanks for checking out my profile!

A little bit about me:

I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay with a degree in Music & Recording technology but at the same time i was performing live with the local and school jazz and latin jazz bands.

Teaching came during/after college where I found helping students discover music and how to be able to play what they want via guitar/ukulele. Some of the traits I take pride in are patience, sympathy and adaptability as a teacher because I am here for your goals and growth not just for my own.

Currently I am a part time Music teacher that teaches both group and private lessons for guitar and ukulele.

Why guitar and ukulele?

The ukulele is how I got started musically. After hearing a friend strum 'Over the Rainbow' and 'Moondance' I was hooked!

The guitar followed soon after. I learned by ear prior to going to college to learn theory and receive proper training.

My Goal:

To help any student achieve their musical goals whether that be performing instrumentally, singing and playing or songwriting on their instrument.

Great Quote:

"You can't build a great building on a weak foundation. You must have a solid foundation if you're going to have a strong superstructure.

Gordon B. Hinckley"

TEACHING STYLE

For beginning students I want to work on getting the foundational pieces of music in place. To me those are MELODY, HARMONY & RHYTHM.

I, as a base for teaching guitar, teach out of the Hal Leonard Guitar Books Vol. 1, 2, 3 [which teach the basics of guitar i.e. chords, scales, songs, etc.] and partner that book with material that caters to the students wants/needs.

From there I form a curriculum and plan for students to learn and eventually perform.

However, I think teaching is NOT JUST about what I LIKE  and what I THINK is best.

I want to be an overall guide and start students off by learning the basics; meanwhile keeping kids interested by working on songs that they know and love or want to work up to!

The ebb and flow between teacher and student is important! I want a student to be comfortable and share what inspires them always.

Sometimes that takes time but I am patient and hope to earn the trust of all my students/parents.

My expectations:

A student should be honest with themselves that although this is fun, you still have to put in some work to be able to play what you love!

A teacher must be honest and realize some students take longer than others, and some get things right away. Either way we have to practice in order to get better and I will be there every step of the way to be a helping guide!

Parents should be involved within all aspects of their kids lives by asking questions, quizzing their kids on what they learned after every lesson and should communicate with the teacher and be open to communication and feedback as well.

We are a team at the end of the day bringing the best out of your kid(s)!

Teacher will provide or mention to student/parent what material will be required to learn guitar.
