About
I am a recent Iowa State University graduate with a bachelors degree in History with a minor in Psychology. I am very passionate about the subject and have a wealth of knowledge on both European and American history, including pre-European American history and ancient Greek history. I have long been a keen student of the past as I believe it to be the gateway into the future and love to help and encourage instruction. A personal anecdote about me that I think demonstrates this is when I studied abroad at the University of Birmingham, I once spent an entire day just in the tower of London learning everything I could and more. I love history and love to show people the past in new and different ways.
Teaching Style
I have been tutoring for as long as I have been a student. As a high schooler, during my junior year I found the time to join a math help group, similar to an afterschool office hours. I proctored tests, aided with homework questions, and helped with my peers' interaction with the base material. During my time at Iowa State, I was often a go-to for friends and acquaintances for homework help, especially with their essays and writing issues. All of this is emblematic of my main teaching style which is modeled after the work of psychologist Lev Vygotsky, who argues that learned peers are essential for deeper understanding and engagement with material. I would argue that this is the essential advantage of a tutor, interpersonal connections. A stuffy classroom and a tenured teacher can do a lot of good, but for many to succeed they need interaction with someone younger and closer to their level.
