Allison Maletz
About
Allison Maletz is a contemporary large-scale watercolor and mixed media artist. She received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, London. She has taught people from age 8-80 and currently leads watercolor, drawing, illustration and professional practices for artists classes. She teaches at Marymount Manhattan College, The 92nd St Y, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Parsons The New School University. She has also had the pleasure of giving artist lectures and demonstrations at countless institutions, including Johns Hopkins University, Stony Brook University, Pepperdine University, Lyme Academy College Of Fine Arts, College Of New Rochelle and RISD. She has exhibited various mediums in the Liverpool Biennial, New Contemporaries UK, Zoo Art Italy, The Royal Watercolor Society in London, the Moscow Biennale for Young Artists at the MMoMA, and the Florence Griswold Museum, CT. She works out of her studios in the Western Catskills and Brooklyn, NY.
Allison began teaching Watercolor and Drawing in 2009, though, she’d been using both mediums since she was in Kindergarten. Her approach to teaching is very hands on, descriptive, and friendly. She works hard to demonstrate and vocalize each step of a process, in a hands on and accessible-to-all sort of way. She uses humor within her dialog while taking your experience quite seriously. She teaches technique from experience, and while her style tends to be representational, she values a diversity of styles, students and skill levels in her classes.

Allison is an amazing teacher! I'm so impressed with what she taught me as a beginner in my very first drawing/art class. I never thought I could draw anything that would look 3D or realistic, but she offers fantastic step-by-step guidance, and it turns out with her instruction I can do a lot more than I thought! I'll definitely take more classes with Allison.

Loved this class! Enjoyed how it was a longer speciality class, Allison was very clear and clearly well versed in her craft. She took questions mid class even when she was unsure if we would make it through all the material, and we still did sail through it all with her patient and kind instruction. The class was great. I was surprised at how much Allison could cover in 40 minutes. I learned new tips and a new technique, and made a pretty nice little painting in that short time. I'd call myself an 'advanced beginner' so I have a lot to still learn and would enjoy more of these.
