Ever since Alyssa Miller was 8 years old, she has had a passion for music. Currently Alyssa is minoring in General Music Studies at SDSU. For 2 years she studied under classical guitarist Sean Basset at San Diego State University. She also studied under Dr. Bryan Bozenthel, a classical voice teacher. This allowed Alyssa to deeply expand her knowledge on proper techniques for voice and guitar which also allowed her to incorporate these techniques into everyday playing and singing.Throughout the years she has been in many bands in the DMV area. She performed at various venues such as the AMP by Strathmore, The Electric Maiden, and Fillmore. Alyssa and her band also got an opportunity to perform in front of thousands of people at the American Heart Associations Annual Heart Walk in DC. Alyssa understands the importance of music and how it has the ability to allow each person to express themselves in many different ways. Alyssa has been fortunate enough to be able to spread her knowledge of music wth students of many different ages and backgrounds over the years.
Currently she is working as a music instructor at Bach To Rock Music School teaching voice, piano, guitar and ukulele. She also do Rock Band Camps and Broadway Music camps in the summers. She has been teaching for about over 2 years and has had experience learning and playing music for over 10 years. Alyssa specializes in teaching students who never played and who already play the instrument and wish to get a more in-depth experience with piano, guitar, ukulele and voice literature by learning new repertoire and developing their technique and music theory. Alyssa looks forward to sharing her passion of music with others!
Teaching Style
Each students lessons will be catered and approached differently based on the students individual goals. Typically, I give students some exercises to help improve techniques and also allow them to pick repertoire they would like to work on. I encourage each student to try and apply some music theory to each repertories or songs they take on. I highly encourage that each student also practice sight reading with their instruments. It is important for a student to develop the ability to read music as well as train their ears musically. I encourage each student to take the time and practice outside of weekly or bi-weekly lessons. The only way to see real growth is for one to put work in. I will work alongside the student as well as work together to open up that very large toolbox music offers.
It is really important as a teacher to try and interact and play along with students so they are abe to learn musical skills on a collaborative level. For all my students, I emphasize the importance of practicing efficiently and developing critical listening skills. This encourages consistent improvement, and whatever your personal goals and skill levels are, I will help you improve and enjoy playing or singing more. I am very patient, encouraging, and supportive of your desire to improve your playing skills and build on your vocal techniques.

Curriculum
I mostly use Hal Leonard music books, for example, Guitar Method Book 1,2,and 3. Also Ukulele Book 1 and 2. For Piano I use the Piano Adventures series from Hal Leonard as well. I also try to incorporate some form of ear training each lesson as well. This would include determining intervals, keys,progressions,chords,etc.
Credentials & Affiliations
For over 10 years I have learned and studied music of various genres. Growing up as a child, I was professionally trained in hour long weekly voice lessons. Eventually, I ventured into other musical instruments such as piano and guitar. I am currently minoring in General Music Studies at San Diego State University. I have studied classical singing under Dr. Bryan Bozenthel at The San Diego State Music Department for almost 2 years. I also studied classical guitar under Sean Basset for about 2 years as well. I auditioned for the "The Voice" and got a second round callback. I have been teaching students for over 2 years now. I have taught group classes with piano and voice. I was a camp counselor at Black Rock Center For The Arts for their Broadway Musicals camps where I helped students prepare their repertoire for the show at the end of the camp session. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity of being able to teach many students of various ages and backgrounds thus far.
