I take a positive and constructive approach in teaching and place a strong emphasis on problem solving. My greatest goals as an educator are to teach students how to become their own best teacher and to instill a love and passion for flute and music making. I like to break down concepts so that students understand why they need to play a certain way, and show them how to think critically. I work with my flute students each week on scales (starting off with two octaves, then moving on to method books such as Taffanel & Gaubert), an etude, and solo and chamber music pieces. I think it’s important to find performance opportunities for students both at school and within the community, and I facilitate [now virtual] student recitals every quarter for my students at Sheppard Pratt.
