Ana Maria Hernandez

Dr. Ana María Hernández is a passionate teacher and performer. Solo Piccolo and Flutist of Puerto Rico Symphony, she is an active international soloist, clinician and scholar. She has been featured in concerts and master classes in 15 countries in Europe, Central and South America, the Caribbean and the United States. Her collaborations with living composers includes premieres with the Puerto Rico Symphony, the Kroger Quartet in Denmark, Ecuador National Symphony and the Orchestra of the International Flute Festival in Panamá. Puerto Rican composer, Ernesto Cordero dedicated his Concierto Boriken to her. Dr. Hernández was prize winner of UFAM and Nerini Competitions in Paris and was featured in Flute Talk Magazine. She attended the French Flute Convention as Arista Flutes representative, at the Seville Expo in Spain and performed with the Ensemble International de Paris, Concerto Soloist of Philadelphia and the Orchestre Philharmique d’Europe. Ana María holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Kansas, a Master of Music Degree from Peabody Conservatory, a Diplome d’Execution of the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, Diplome Supérieur de Flute of l’Ecole Nationale de Ville d’Avray, Bachelor of Arts from the University of Puerto Rico and Bachelor of Music from Puerto Rico Conservatory. She has taught at the Puerto Rico Conservatory, the University of Puerto Rico, the University of Kansas, the Interamerican University and Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. Dr. Hernández created the Piccolo and Latin American Women Composers Courses at the Puerto Rico Conservatory as well as the Women in Music course at the University of Puerto Rico.  Her CD Flauta Boricua/Puerto Rican Flute was awarded by the Fundación Nacional para la Cultura Popular in San Juan and sponsored by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. Dr. Hernández is a member of the jury of the international competition La Flauta Latinoamericana wich features Latin American flute music. She was Artistic Coordinator and creator of the First Latin American Flute Festival at the University of Puerto Rico. Her major instructors were Dr. Sarah Frisof, Keith Underwood, Patricia Nagle, Patrice Bocquillon, Dominique Etievant, Robert Willoughby, Mark Sparks, Peter Kern, Rubén López and Iván Mariani. more at: anamariahernandez.com
