Anja Kravanja
About
Hi, my name is Anja and I am a 25-year old professional classical flutist. When I was 6 years old, I fell in love with the flute and since then, I have dedicated my time and studies to it. The flute has brought me many amazing experience and achievements on a high professional level, among others, many golden and silver prizes from national and international competitions. The most recent achievement from a competition that I would like to emphasize is winning a golden award, absolute first prize and laureate title at the 2023 Dvorin Jenko International Woodwind Competition in Belgrade, Serbia. Another recent achievement that makes my resume even stronger is finishing my 4-year Bachelor studies with a world renowned flutist Univ.-Prof. Dejan Gavric in Mainz, Germany and therefore gaining a German diploma with the title ''Bachelor of Music''. Next to the rich soloistic, chamber music and orchestral experience I have also a broad spectrum of teaching experience, which brings me a lot of joy and fulfillment. Something that always makes me happy is the fact that I can share my knowledge and experience with others - younger and older than me. That is why I really look forward to our lessons together.
Teaching Style
I always like to start with the basics. Whichever student comes to me, I like to check the embachoure, fingers, intonation and sound quality and work from there, regardless of the years of playing or the level that the student is on. If there is no basics, everything else makes no sense. It can happen that someone has played the flute for 10 years but nothing seems to work as it should. In that case I really like to focus on the simple things and try to build from the basic grounds. On the other side, I am also very aware of the joy and love for music that student needs to feel, while playing the flute. If I see that we are drowning in technical work, and it sucks joy out of the student, I immediately try to shift our focus on something that is fun and brings back the sense of meaning and the love for the music; the fuel for making progress.
Curriculum
This depends on a specific student and their wishes. I also have a standard set of technical and sound exercises that I like to work with, but the spectrum is wide and depends on the advancement of the student.
