Anna Farmer
About
Anna believes that kindness, motivation, and experience go a long way when teaching music and strives to portray those aspects to her students at each lesson. Specializing in teaching both lever and pedal harp, she teaches all skill levels and ages from children to adults. She has had her own private harp studio at her home for 14 years but also enjoys the opportunity to teach virtually as well and has the privilege to meet people from all around the world by doing so.
She has taught masterclasses, workshops and has instructed ensembles as well as individuals. Throughout her time as a harpist, she has had the honor of performing at the acclaimed Carnegie Hall as well as playing at various events, ranging from private dinners, weddings, and events at different churches.
Anna looks forward to teaching each of her students and feels that the more passion that you show for what you are doing, the more that will reflect on each student, causing them to strive to reach their maximum potential.
Teaching Style
Throughout her time as a music teacher, Anna has learned that everyone has a different learning style and that each one needs to be taught in a different way that works for them. She meets with each student prior to beginning lessons and finds out how they learn best and caters to them accordingly. Once lessons begin, if something needs to be adjusted to help that student learn better, she makes sure to address it. She strives to make sure each student feels comfortable, respected and understood, allowing for their musical abilities to prosper.
Curriculum
I believe in teaching each student the way that works best for them, as everyone doesn’t learn the same way. Generally speaking, for students just beginning in music, I use the same series of books but I change the style of teaching the material to fit the student’s needs best. Although, the books are subject to change based on whether or not the student already reads music.
For beginning harpists, I use Teach Yourself to Play the Folk Harp by Sylvia Woods, Hymns and Wedding Music for All Harps by Sylvia Woods, Harp Exercises For Speed And Agility For Non-Pedal And Pedal Harps, and Harp Olympics Preliminary Round.
Credentials & Affiliations
Anna attended Furman University for a Bachelors in Music degree for harp performance and has won multiple awards throughout the years in various music competitions and festivals.
