About

My name is Ayush Joshi, and I am a pianist and conductor with experiences across a wide variety of music styles. I have experience in playing classical, jazz, orchestral, and pop music as a keyboardist in both professional and academic settings. As a music director I have conducted a symphony orchestra, two musical theater productions, and an a capella group. I have a deep love for all kinds of music and my goal is to foster a similar kind of love in students of any age. Music is incredibly fun and important to me and I hope to spread this love through my teaching of piano and conducting.

As a teacher, I want to help the student achieve their goals. Whether a student wants to learn a particular piece, or a certain skill such as improvisation, I tailor my teaching style to help them achieve this goal while also supplementing their learning by developing other skills. As a piano teacher, I would want to ensure that my students have solid foundational skills in sight reading, ear training, pianistic technique, harmony, and rhythm. I also want to teach and develop good practicing habits, as I feel like this is an often neglected area of study yet vitally important in learning any musical instrument.

I have taught private lessons to high school students throughout my time at College. I have also worked with younger students (ages 3-8) as a teaching assistant of the Early Childhood Music School in Williamsburg, VA. I was the music director of the Sinfonicron Light Opera Company for the 2019 and 2020 seasons, and gained valuable experience working with college-age orchestral musicians. I have volunteered as a front ensemble teacher for the Great Bridge High School Marching Band Front Ensemble, and I will be starting in the fall as a front ensemble and private piano teacher at River Bluff High School in Lexington, SC.

A student needs only a reliable internet connection and some kind of keyboard instrument. Full 88 weighted keys are ideal, but not required. With an internet connection, I would guide the student in finding appropriate music and exercises on IMSLP.org and other trustworthy websites. The student should also have a blank notebook in which to keep a weekly log of goals.
