About

I have 25 years of performing and recording experience, including the Vancouver Jazz Festival, and working with Grammy Award winners Chin Injeti and DJ Khalil. I have 15 years of teaching experience, including private and group classes, and all ages. I have taught guitar, along with song-writing and music theory. I am a trained musician, graduating from the B.F.A music program at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, and am well versed in many styles. I am also a prolific songwriter, and love to help people unlock that in themselves.

My teaching is focussed on getting you to fluency as quickly as possible. It is focussed on mimicry - the way we learned our mother tongue. I foster creativity, and I help you to unlock the tools you already posess so that you can reach further than you imagined possible.

My biggest strength as a teacher is in my ability to help people hear things in a way they didn't before and connecting them with the guitar. My motto is, if you can sing it, you can play it. I know, I know, a lot of people don't think that they can sing, or worse - don't WANT to sing. Don't worry, I'm not here to force you, but I have seen time and time again that when people connect to their guitar through their voice, they learn many times faster. I will bring you from your most basic chords, through to the fanciest funkiest jazz chords out there, with a focus on rhythm, expression, dynamics and feel. Flatpicking, fingerstyle, and hybrid picking are all part of the repetoire and we will explore all three as you progress. You will learn to change chords quickliy and effectively, and to play by ear.

Everybody is a musician. I really believe that. I just want you to know that too :) Self-confidence is so important, and music transforms lives. Lessons are fun, dynamic, and most of all, challenging. I expect a lot from my students. Like any language, the teacher can't learn the language for you. You have to work at it and put in the time. You have to immerse yourself. If you aren't ready to put in the work, then I can't and won't help, because I really want you to be your best. I am demanding - students are expected to play at least 30-45 mins a day. Through discipline, there is freedom...
