About
Hi I'm Benjie, I'm a professional Horn player and teacher based in London, UK. My playing career has taken me across the world from contracted seats in Asia, to a rich freelance career back home in London.
With the Chineke! Orchestra I have performed at The BBC Proms, and numerous other concerts in the UK, I also work with Orchestra of The Swan in the Midlands. With the Lumos Wind Quintet I have travelled twice to USA, once to perform at the International Conducting Festival, Danville, KY, and another time as the Quintet in Residence at the Hot Springs Music Festival, AK.
I have been teaching since 2020, helping younger students excel through ABRSM grades and helping mature students with their general practice and ensemble skills. My lessons focus a lot on core technique and are catered to what my students want to work towards, be it exams, ensemble skills, or anything else.
My teaching style is patient and pragmatic, with open discussions about goals, our relationship with our instruments and the music we play, and concise working points for the week(s) ahead.
Currently I teach Horn, Trumpet, and Trombone and work as a brass tutor for the Chineke! Juniors; Europe's leading youth orchestra of Black and ethnically diverse players aged 11-22. I am incredibly passionate about outreach, bringing out every student's full potential and keeping music learning fun!
