Bowen is a storyteller, educator and environmentalist who believes stories can be transformative. Whenever possible, she merges these passions together, bringing in her training as an illustrator and as a traditional Chinese medicine health provider to the mix. The fusion of all these talents provides a deep and memorable learning experience. 

Bowen has been on the stage of national and international storytelling events, conducts workshops for educators, and performs virtually with national, international, and regional programs. She has won numerous national story slams and been an National Storytelling Network Grand Slam winner. She has been an English Language Development specialist for 35 years for children and adults.

Education and Training - B.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities, Teacher Credential earned at JFK University, CA. Attended California Arts School, UC Santa Cruz Science Communications for Natural Science Illustration, Academy of Traditional Chinese Culture and Health. Taught English Language Development for English Language Learners for 35 years in California public schools. Classroom teacher for kindergarten to 12th grade. Artist in Schools for Santa Cruz, Marin, Alameda, and Monterey counties in California.

Bowen individualizes instruction to meet the needs and goals of individuals and small groups. She delivers guided instruction with complex concepts and sequences broken down into small parts that are modeled and repeated until the learner is comfortable and confident to proceed. Her teaching is highly creative and learning with her, especially for challenging components of a lesson, is fun.
