Brandon Meeks
About
I have been a professional bass player for 20 years and have had the good fortune to work in many interesting and diverse musical situations across genres. My background is rooted in jazz, gospel and soul music and I spend a lot of time touring and performing original music and also working with national artists. I’ve recorded on nearly 300 independent recordings and also appeared in the film Miles Ahead alongside famed actor Don Cheadle. Most recently I was invited to become an adjunct professor of music in jazz studies at University of Indianapolis.
I love helping musicians improve and I have a very down-to-earth and relatable approach to teaching. Since I perform regularly I’m able to offer tons of real-world advice in addition to an in-depth knowledge of music theory. I’ll help you discover both your strengths and weaknesses and give you tools to reach your potential as a musician. Contact me today and let’s get started!
Teaching Style
My ultimate goal is to help my students find their own unique voice on the bass. The path to this goal is tailored to fit the individual learner. I like to keep things relatable and break complex ideas into simpler steps so that no concept becomes a daunting task. Some details that we will cover include technical studies, tone and timbre, improvisation and the role of bass guitar in a band. We’ll also analyze songs you like and I will always encourage your creativity.
