Brent Wirth
About
Brent Wirth is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer and pedagogue who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts - Specialized Honours Music degree. While completing his degree at York University, Brent had the opportunity to study with several of Canada’s leading music instructors, including William Beauvais, Art Levine and David Lidov, in the areas of classical guitar performance, theory and composition respectively. He is also a music instructor himself and has over a decade of experience teaching guitar, bass, drums, theory and songwriting both privately and in group classes to students of all ages and levels.
Despite his young age, he has already garnered international recognition for his musical efforts which include composing an original score for the independent short film Meet May that was selected for the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival and recording original music and an accompanying video that was broadcasted to millions of people during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino. More recently, two of his songs were licensed to be used in the pilot episode of a new sitcom, Lunch, which is currently being pitched to television networks across the United States.
Brent is also an avid performer and has hit the stage over a thousand times across North America and has been heavily involved in Canada's flourishing rock and pop music scenes with a plethora of bands. He is also no stranger to the recording process. In addition to producing and recording local bands and artists at his home studio, Tape Head Recording, Brent has accumulated dozens of recording credits as a performer, songwriter and producer.
Teaching Style
Brent is a firm believer in and advocate for a holistic approach to music education. He believes that exposing his students to all areas of musical literacy leads to not only the best musical results, but also in terms of instilling the strongest connection to music in his students. Lessons are dynamic, relevant and fun at all times through the simultaneous exploration of technique, repertoire, performance, theory, composition, orchestration, history and music production.
