About

Brian was born June 1992 in Kitchener, a city just west of Toronto, Ontario in Canada. His musical life began at nine years when he first started lessons with his grandmother. After showing a growing fascination with jazz and blues music he began studies with Andriy Tykhonov. At this time Brian had begun performing in several rock and blues groups such as The Red Ribbon Player’s and Alex Tintinalli Band and simultaneously started his own jazz piano trio. At 14 years he decided to make classical studies a major part of his musical diet and started working under the instruction of Olena Klyucharova, leading to the completion of a certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music. He also studied the pipe organ with Marlin Nagtegaal. Shortly after this he also completed a double major in Music and Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. While a student, he was very active in the Southern Ontario jazz scene, working with jazz groups such as the Derek Hines quintet, the Macondo quartet, his own Brian Voll Trio and various other local musicians.

In 2014 life brought him to Athens, Greece, where he has been living ever since. In Athens, Brian has been performing with local groups No More Blues and Tea for X, and has arranged a jazz piano trio with Seraphim Bellos on drums and on Nikos Chatzitsakos bass. The trio performs predominately Brian’s compositions as well as arrangements of well know standards.

Aside from performance, Brian is actively composing in various idioms and ensemble settings, teaching both classical and contemporary music, practicing his second instrument, the Panflute, and studying music independently. He has a great fascination with the different ways music is approached and taught around the world and is constantly seeking opportunities to deepen his understanding and appreciation of music not so familiar to the western ear.

My main objective is always to give you the motivationnspiration and ideas to begin to learn and practice independantly.
