As a performer, she has performed in 40 states at venues including Carnegie Hall, the McPherson Scottish Festival and Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts.  Her violin playing can be heard on film soundtracks including Irish-American baseball movie The Emerald Diamond, Snakes and Ladders and Child of Giants: My journey with Maynard Dixon and Dorothea Lange. Cady has 5 cds and her music is played on more than 300 radio stations. She performs as a duo with French guitarist Vita Tanga.

Cady Finlayson taught for over 15 years at the United Nations International School, both private violin/viola lessons as well as group string classes. During this time, she prepared students for the ABRSM  (exam for the Royal Schools of Music) and for violin recitals and chamber music programs.  She also worked with the Youth Orchestras of Essex County as a conductor.

Her teacher training includes attending the Carnegie Hall  Music Educator's yearlong workshop for three years, Suzuki teacher training, Mark O'Connor method training and attending string teacher conferences and workshops.

I  enjoy working with each student to find what motivates them, what their goals are and how I can help them reach the next level. I believe correct violin technique is important and I also believe music should be joyous and inspiring,  I have taught a variety of ages and experience levels and tailor each lesson to the individual student.

As I am both a classical performer and a Celtic fiddle player, I am happy to offer different styles of music in addition to the standard repertoire.

Master of Music, The New School Mannes College of Music Bachelor of Music, The New School, Mannes College of Music Carnegie Hall Music Educator's yearlong training - 3 years. Bachelor of Science in Video Arts Technology Borough of Manhattan Community College

My violin teaching is a combination of the methods I studied (Galamian, Paul Rolland, Suzuki, etc. ) and the needs of the individual student. I encourage students to include skill practice such as beautiful tone, pitch,  faster fingers etc. in their practice, and we go over short warmup routines that cover these skills.  We also look at the pieces the student is playing and I breakdown technical passages as needed to make them more comfortable.  I use a variety of books depending on the level and interest of the student and I am happy to also work on any pieces you may be playing or wish to play. I am an expert at teaching students how to practice - ways to make it efficient and fun.

For students that would like to learn basic improvisation, this is an option and we  sometimes use backing tracks to experience the joy of music making in this way. After the lesson, I provide a written home practice routine suggestion of what we covered during the lesson and if necessary a short video segment.
