Carol James
About
Carol James is a self-taught textile artist who has been exploring low-tech textile methods for 30 years. Focusing on sprang, she has examined items in collections across the US and Europe, and is known for her ability to replicate these historic textiles. She has also created modern garments deemed worthy of the Handweavers Guild of America fashion show. Carol has taught in Canada, the US, Europe, and New Zealand. Students describe her as patient, knowledgeable, and passionate. In 2020 her students encouraged her to teach on-line, and she has found this to be a very effective platform. Everyone gets a “front row seat” view. Her on-line classes regularly receive rave reviews. Her other COVID project has been to chart sprang lace designs and write up patterns. She is the author of numerous articles, 6 books, and 2 instructional DVDs.
