Casey Pugh

I’ve been teaching and performing music in the Washington, D.C. area for over three decades. My solo classical guitar performances have garnered me recognition, but I’ve also played in various musical ensembles, ranging from flamenco to jazz to rock. I studied Classical Guitar at Northern Virginia Community College and George Mason University. As a classically trained professional musician, I’m passionate about sharing my expertise and knowledge with my students.

My teaching philosophy centers around technique and theory, but I tailor each lesson to suit the individual student’s level and interests. I’m comfortable teaching all styles and skill levels, ensuring that my students have a fulfilling learning experience.

To provide my students with practical experience, I organize regular student concerts. These concerts range from beginner recitals to solo performances of original music, allowing my students to showcase their talents in a performance setting.

Throughout my career, I’ve been honored with the prestigious INSIDENOVA Prince William County’s Best Music Instructor award eight times. This recognition underscores my dedication to excellence and my commitment to nurturing the musical talents of my students.

I tailor lessons to individual students. I discuss goals and ideas initially and use information from the student to create a lesson plan. I stress technique and theory with all students. My goal is to help them meet their goals. 

Students will be given a weekly assignment and goals to meet. We begin each lesson reviewing the previous lessons material. Then learn new concepts and have a little time for fun and experimentation. 

I try to create a safe environment for students to grow. My students will learn that mistakes are ok. Mistakes are part of the process. I make sure my students aren't afraid of mistakes.
