Charles Coffeen

Hi! I'm Charlie, a Los Angeles-based keyboardist, producer, songwriter, and DJ. After graduating with a BM in Contemporary, Urban, & Popular Music from Columbia College, I have toured internationally as the bandleader for genre-bending hip-hop group Sidewalk Chalk (Ropeadope Records). With Sidewalk Chalk, I have played alongside artists like D'Angelo, De La Soul, Snarky Puppy, and on acclaimed stages around the world. As a producer and studio musician, I have been featured on numerous albums and landed commercial scoring placements with brands like Blue Moon, Lululemon, Samsung, and composed original music for the stage, TV, and film. Currently, I am living in LA producing for my own projects and for other artists, and working in TV & film.

Teaching music should be fun and engaging. My goal as a teacher is to leave students with the tools to express themselves fully and without limitations. Learning how to listen and translate what you are hearing onto your instrument is the first step to learning how to truly be a musician, and I work with students to develop their ear so that no piece of music is out of reach. Whether it is jazz, R&B, music production, or learning how to put music to film, I work with students on finding their own voice and honing their craft.
