About

Based in Houston, Texas, international performer and award-winning soloist, Charlotte Povey, is one of the most sought-out young hornists in the south. Having spent her summers playing in premiere music festivals — including the Trentino Music Festival in Italy, the Atlantic Music Festival, where she was a Resident Artist Fellow, and Texas Music Festival, as an orchestral fellow. Ms. Povey has an abundance of orchestral experience. As a soloist, Charlotte has a passion for transcribing and revitalizing art songs and has premiered eight of her own transcriptions. Beyond her own work, Charlotte is a recognized performer of standard horn literature and was a semifinalist in the Paranov Concerto Competition.

Charlotte received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from Ithaca College in New York. In addition to studying music, she took advantage of the diverse course offerings and set aside time to pursue and complete a rigorous minor in Business Administration. Charlotte’s growing advocacy for the arts has included courses in Entrepreneurship, Business Planning, Finance, Marketing, — unusual skills for such a young and notable performer.

Charlotte is currently pursuing her Master’s in Music Performance at the Moore’s School of Music where she studies under Robert Johnson, Associate principal horn of the Houston Symphony. Along with her performance degrees, Charlotte is an avid researcher and has done research on how musicians can utilize mindfulness in their practice and performance.

As a strong believer in the life-changing power of music, my teaching is driven by my purpose to serve and inspire students of all backgrounds to realize their full potential and leave a positive impact on the lives of others. My approach in teaching is firmly grounded in developing a healthy relationship with music making and a self-driven practice culture in my students. As a practicing teacher, I strive tirelessly to lead by example. I ensure my students feel empowered after each lesson and meanwhile hold them accountable to commit to their own daily grinds. When working with young aspiring artists, it is my goal and mission to inspire the drive and commitment to pursue excellence in them, and to be adaptable in coping with challenges and learning from setbacks. Especially during times of difficulty, I love to encourage my students to follow their curiosity and guard their motivation as we share the journey of music making together.
