About

Don't just learn how to play like another artist, learn how to discover YOUR UNIQUE SOUND. Intermixing a creative workshop with technical instruction on guitar, I will guide you on a path to self-education and exploration. I have over 25 years of experience writing, recording and performing original music. I play guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. I was a percussive member of the Bands of America 1997 Finalist Lassiter Marching Band. Member of many bands, including local touring act Ribbit (2005-2010). But mainly music has been a form of therapy for me. The act of creation I find to be one of the most healing hobbies available, and it is my goal to aid others in finding their inner artist! I also facilitate sound healing and sound therapy in the state of Georgia both publicly and for mental health facilities. I am certified through the NCCAP.

I approach teaching as a creative coach. My goal is to build a strong foundation of knowledge and skill that the student then can use to empower their creativity. From the beginning we learn music theory and how scales work on guitar. What makes guitar special as an instrument. We learn exercises and chords to build finger strength and knowledge of the fretboard. But most importantly I open space for creative exploration. The student is given creative exercises to explore the many different sounds the guitar is capable of. Within a few lessons the student is asked to write their own simple music. My goal is to open the box of creative play before education closes the student in a box of standards. I want you to sound like yourself!!

This class focusses on developing three aspects of a musician; The Body, The Mind and The Soul. With Body we will focus on developing the finger strength, stamina, and muscle memory necessary for playing guitar. Students will be given exercises and chords to practice that will train their hand for performance. For the Mind we will focus on learning the basics of music theory. Students will not only learn what the notes are on the guitar, but also why certain notes sound good with other notes. These fundamentals are presented in the context of giving the student the tools necessary to begin a journey of self-education. Students are also presented with challenges to begin their early ear development. They are encouraged to attempt to learn music by ear alone and given exercises in applying the lesson's scales through consistent playing and experimentation over provided music. And finally for the Soul we will focus on the heart of music and connecting to the heart of ourselves as artist. We will discuss how we connect with music, and how we connect with our own inner artist. Students will be encouraged, through creative exercises, to become comfortable with creating unfamiliar sounds. We will develop a practice for clearing any predispositions of what's good and bad in order to embrace creating something original.
