About

I’m Chris Wineland, a national touring stand-up comedian and comedy coach specializing in clean, high-impact material for both stage and digital platforms.

I’ve performed across the country in theaters, churches, clubs, and conferences, and my work has been featured on Dry Bar Comedy, Huckabee, and other national platforms. I’ve also written for television and worked behind the scenes helping developing comedians shape their voice, timing, and stage presence.

As a coach, I focus on practical comedy skills—writing jokes that actually work on stage, understanding timing and audience rhythm, and building confidence in performance. Whether you’re brand new or trying to tighten your set, I help you move from “funny ideas” to a real, repeatable act.

My approach is straightforward: no fluff, no ego—just tools that get results. I work especially well with comedians who want to stay clean, family-friendly, or message-driven without losing effectiveness.

If you’re ready to improve your writing, sharpen your delivery, and get real feedback from someone actively working in the industry, I’d love to help you grow.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is practical, direct, and highly collaborative. I focus on helping students get better quickly by working on real material they are currently writing or performing.

Each session is built around where you are right now—whether that’s developing your first set, tightening an existing act, or preparing for live performance. I don’t rely on theory alone; we work through actual jokes, identify what’s working, and fix what isn’t in real time.

I give clear, honest feedback while keeping the process encouraging and approachable. My goal is to help you understand not just what to change, but why it works—so you can grow as a writer and performer long-term, not just fix one set.

Students can expect a mix of coaching, editing, and performance strategy, with a strong focus on timing, structure, and audience connection.

I work best with students who are willing to try ideas, take feedback, and do the work between sessions.

Curriculum

My teaching method is hands-on, practical, and built around real-world comedy performance.

We don’t stay in theory—I work directly with your material, whether you’re writing your first jokes or refining a full set. Each session focuses on identifying what’s working, what’s not landing, and how to make your material sharper, clearer, and more effective on stage.

I break comedy down into clear, learnable parts: premise development, joke structure, timing, and audience connection. We’ll test ideas, rewrite weak spots, and build toward a set that can actually be performed in front of a real audience.

I also help students think like performers, not just writers—how to read a room, pace a set, and build confidence under pressure.

Between sessions, you’ll be encouraged to apply what we worked on so each lesson builds momentum instead of resetting.

I don’t require formal textbooks, but I do recommend a few practical resources that help reinforce what we cover in sessions:

  • The Comedy Bible by Judy Carter – strong foundation for structure and writing basics
  • Born Standing Up by Steve Martin – excellent insight into the mindset and discipline of a performer
  • Your own recorded sets – the most important “text” you’ll use is your actual performance footage

Clear coaching, real feedback, and practical tools to help you write better jokes and perform with confidence on any stage.
