About

I'm a working artist and art educator with over 10 years of experience teaching students of all ages — from little kids just picking up a pencil to adults rediscovering their creative side. My lessons are relaxed, conversation-based, and built around what you want to make.

I teach drawing, watercolor, gouache, acrylics, and mixed media — and I meet you where you are. No special supplies required. We work with what you have at home and build from there.

My style is contemporary and modern, which means less "copy this still life" and more "let's make something you actually want on your wall." I love journaling, character art, expressive painting, and helping students find their own visual voice. Every lesson is live, one-on-one, and moves at your pace.

I'm a real human artist who teaches the way I learned — hands-on, intuitive, and always encouraging. Whether you're a total beginner or someone who's been away from art for a while, you'll leave each session with something finished and a little more confidence than you came in with.

Let's make something together.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is relaxed but focused — every lesson is a real conversation built around what you want to create. I give honest, constructive feedback and adjust the pace to fit where you are. No pressure, no rigid curriculum, just intentional hands-on practice with a teacher who's genuinely paying attention.

Curriculum

No textbooks required. I provide all materials digitally — supply lists, reference sheets, and lesson notes are shared as PDFs and Canva files directly with each student. During our live sessions we work inside Google Classroom together, where presentations and notes stay available for you to revisit anytime. Photo references are used in many lessons to guide observation and technique. Everything you need is accessible online and free to use.

Credentials & Affiliations

I studied at the University of Lynchburg and Hood College in Frederick, MD, and completed a residency at the Academy Center for the Arts in Lynchburg, where I was later invited to teach students for several years. I've taught across community centers, private academies, and Montessori classrooms, and have worked as an artist in residence in my hometown for over 17 years.

My approach to credentials is as hands-on as my teaching — I've sought out workshops across multiple states, learning directly from working artists of different backgrounds and perspectives rather than relying on a single tradition. I hold certifications from several of those trainings, with particular focus on landscape techniques and observational drawing.

I have over 10 years of experience teaching both online and in person, taking on projects others passed on and building self-guided programs from the ground up. If you love painting or drawing in the real world — from life, from reference, from your own imagination — you'll feel right at home in my classes.
