Christine Breeden

Christine Breeden is a midwest-based bassoonist and contrabassoonist.  Having earned her Bachelor's degree in bassoon performance from the University of Illinois in 2022, she is now pursuing a Master's degree in bassoon performance at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, & Dance.   She frequently performs with the university's bands and orchestras, as well as orchestras throughout Illinois and Michigan.  Christine is also an avid solo and chamber musician, and she was selected as the winner of the Thomas J. Smith Solo competition during her time at Illinois.  Her educational experiences have also taken her across the United States and abroad, including performances throughout France, Luxembourg, Germany, and Australia.

Christine's musical perspective is particularly forward-facing, as she is passionate about the evolving role of classical music in the modern sphere.  She is committed to equity and inclusion in the arts, and is a champion of contemporary and historically excluded composers.  Because of the ways in which music shapes lives and empowers people of all ages and abilities, Christine is eager to share the joy the bassoon has to offer.
