About

Clare has years of experience as a musician after beginning violin at age 8, and piano at age 9.

She was awarded a full scholarship at the University of Tasmania after being accepted into the Prelude Program, which allowed her to begin her Bachelor of Music whilst concurrently completing her final year at school.

She majored in violin under teachers Peter Tanfield, Edwin Paling and Lucy Carrig and was three times placed on the Deans Role of Excellence before graduating with her Bachelor of Music in 2011.

During this time she also completed a Diploma of Music Performance.

Throughout her teenage years, Clare was a regular participant in programs including the Australian Youth Orchestra's National Music Camp and the University of Tasmania's AISOI (Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute).

Since graduating, Clare has explored many styles of violin playing, including the Irish and Scottish folk tradition whilst living in the UK, and contemporary electric violin.

She began her studio in Melbourne in 2017 with almost all beginners, taking many of them through to receive consistently outstanding results in AMEB exams.

With the pandemic necessitating a shift to online learning, Clare put hours of research into providing quality music education online and launched Steps 2 Music, providing courses in beginner violin, effective practice technique and theory. Encouraged by the great progress of her students whilst learning online, she is now dedicated to offering high quality online lessons, especially to students in rural and remote areas, whilst continuing teaching at her studio and local schools.
