From the time I wake up in the morning to the time I go to bed at night, I'm constantly passionate about music. Whether that's music I create on my own or getting the opportunity to help others learn a song they love for the first time, I love all of it! In 2011 I graduated at Hillsong International Leadership College where I learned to develop and fine tune my skills as a professional guitarist and vocalist. Since then, I have been involved in various musical ventures including writing and producing audio for a podcast as well as writing, playing and recording with professional musicians/bands. I have been a guitar/voice coach for over 10 years now and I never grow tired of helping someone achieve learning a brand new instrument or improving on certain skills.
I first started teaching guitar as a junior in high school at Ted Brown Music in Richland, Washington. The summer I graduated high school I taught multiple week-long group beginner courses at The Academy also located in Richland where I also taught private lessons for a short time. Then it was off to college! I headed overseas to craft my guitar/vocal skills, to better my teaching, performing and song writing skills. Since graduating in 2011, I have continued to teach and it is still such a great passion of mine.
For students who are starting brand new with little to no experience, I usually try to gauge their interests and music goals and build a practice plan specifically tailored to fit their needs. In my past experience some students of mine like to learn theory right away in which case I teach out of Mel Bay Method One and start with basic scales, chords, exercises, etc. (I can always send a link to order the book). Other students want to dive right in to classic hits right away and just lust learn the tabs for each song. Both ways are awesome! I am here to help get you to where you want to be with your guitar playing goals. I will give you hands on knowledge you can apply to start learning songs as well as practical advise when it comes to getting out there and playing with a band!
I strongly believe in listening, watching and observing every student in order to craft a plan that works for them. I love it when a student feels like they have a clear and concise path towards reaching a goal such as playing in a band or trying out for high school Jazz band, etc. I love being able to provide the tools to gain the confidence to be the player that they want to be! Some students just don't want to learn music theory and that's OK. I can offer other ways to learn a wide variety of songs. Others want classic theory training mixed in (just like I had for many years) and I can accommodate those needs as well.
