Dana Protsenko
About
Before moving to Boston to study jazz singing at Berklee College of Music, Dana Protsenko sang and recorded with a number of jazz groups, most notably the Down Beat award-winning American River College Advanced Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the Traditional jazz band The New Lowdown, which played the Sacramento Jazz Festival. From that band came her beloved trio, a supportive group of musicians dedicated to collaboration and patient exploration of Dana’s musical ideas and growth, for which she is so grateful. In addition to jazz, Dana also spent time in the classical realm, performing solo classical recitals and singing with the Sacramento-based women’s vocal ensemble Vox Musica.
Currently, Dana Protsenko is living in Watertown and performing with varying groups in and around the Boston area. One of the main projects she is focused on is Dashina, which is a group that Inna Dudukina and Dana have started together. It is a vocal trio that sings eastern European styles but fuses traditional singing with jazz, rock, and electronic music. Aside from Dashina, Dana also leads her own contemporary jazz quintet, which she has titled as Karamel Day, although it has interchanging band members. Dana also guest appears on albums and performances, her most recent collaboration being with a Boston based progressive R&B band called ALLBE.
