Daniel Hunter is an English born, Australian-raised guitarist and educator now based in Paris, France.
As a performer Daniel has appeared on stage throughout France, Switzerland, Australia, Italy, Germany, Morocco and even Azerbaijan!
Daniel has been teaching for over 12 years and has experience with students of all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced guitarists soon to become professionals. He has had students aged from 5 to 80 years old and works in both English and in French. As well as teaching privatley, Daniel has been on the staff of multiple music schools in Australia, Switzerland and France.
Daniel started on the guitar at the age of 13, when his parents got tired of him strumming on a tennis raquet. In 2006 he recieved a bachelor of music with honours, majoring in jazz performance from the Australian National University School of Music. After graduating he continued to work as a teacher and performer in Australia, playing a wide variety of styles in a diverse range of performance situations. Daniel left for Europe in late 2007, and found himself in Geneva, Switzerland where he based himself for the next 4 years as a teacher, performer and composer. In 2009 he formed the Daniel Hunter Trio was formed with Swiss drummer Alain Reider, and French bassist Dominique Giezendanner. The trio gave regular performances of his original music in Switzerland and France.
In 2011 Daniel moved to Paris with the aim of further developing his performance and teaching career. In 2014 he released his first album of original music "The Twentieth" with the Daniel Hunter Quartet. The Quartet's second album "Refuge" will be released in early 2017.
Daniel lessons are tailored to the student's learning-style and pace, as well as to their musical tastes. Because everybody prefers practicing songs rather than scales, wherever possible he presents new concepts by coupling them with repertoire that appeals to the student. Correct posture and technique is very important on the guitar and Daniel makes sure that his students adopt the right habits from the beginning. By setting attaianable weekly or monthly goals with his students, as well as helping students develop a practice routine in accordance with their time constraints and objectives, Daniel helps students structure their learning to ensure progress. Although primarily a jazz guitarist, Daniel also has plenty of experience teaching rock and pop, blues, country, funk, bossa nova and samba, and classical music.
