About

Hello from Denise Locke Heard.  I am a professional musician in Nashville, TN.  I have been working here for 20 years after moving from Texas.  I received my undergraduate  degree at Tarleton State University.  My degree is a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance.  Once I graduated and relocated to Nashville, I began teaching and working as a recording session musician.  I also have had many jobs at churches playing piano, guitar, and singing and leading in multiple areas.  I have always loved writing songs and once I had been in Nashville a while I ended up gravitating so much to the writing/publishing side of the business.  I started working as a professional songwriter in 1997.  Most of the work I did then was with recording artists and now I mostly concentrate on Sync projects, which is creating music for ads, and for film and tv.  I am also playing at Belmont University for many of the Commercial Vocal Majors.  I am starting a new venture with a grad student at Belmont called VOCO, which is a Vocal Cardio workout that creates voice-body connection and builds stamina for touring and healthy singing.  I also record in my home studio a lot using a software called Pro Tools.  I teach quite a few of my younger students on the Garage Band software.

Teaching Style

Hi there- I'm a musician in Nashville,TN and I like to call what I do mentoring.

My intention is to serve the musicians I work with in helping them find the path that will get them where they want to go!  We all need a skill set in music to accomplish our goals, so I like to identify the destination with my students in order to clarify what they need.  We are all capable of so much and I love surprising people with systems to get them mastering the major parts of the skill they need- then we add in details along the way.  This speeds up the process and is SO inspiring!  Please reach out and let me know your desired destination and we can see if I can help you get there!

Curriculum

I like to use many different resources.  I have a book that I wrote which is available on Amazon and I use this a lot.  It is a guide for using the Number System to play commercial music.  I also like to use Suzuki method and a combination of many others.
