Devin Hoff
About
Devin Hoff is a bassist, composer and arranger, born in Colorado and based in Los Angeles. He has worked with Julia Holter, Nels Cline, Sharon Van Etten, Xiu Xiu, Cibo Matto, Marc Ribot, Mike Watt, Yoko Ono, Good For Cows, and many more. He has played thousands of shows on 5 continents, including several major festivals, recorded on over 100 releases, and written and performed music for film, dance and theater.
Devin has also released three albums of solo contrabass material, and performed as a solo artist throughout the U.S., Europe, Iceland, and Argentina.
As a clinician he has given given master classes at universities and conservatories internationally, as well as writing guest columns for music and bass magazines, and has continued to teach privately throughout hs career.
I tailor my teaching to the interests and experience of each student, and believe that most people make the best progress when they are enjoying themselves. I do encourage concentration on musical fundamentals such as rhythmic and harmonic identification and ear-training, which to me supersede style and technique.
The way I see it, I am serving a student well when I am helping them build the tools to learn and create what they want to.
